Flyer Design Best Practices

A great flyer communicates its message in under 3 seconds. Here's how to design one that works.

The 3-Second Rule

Readers decide in 3 seconds whether to keep reading or toss it. Your flyer must:

  • Grab attention — with a bold headline or image
  • Communicate the core message — immediately
  • Direct to an action — (call, visit, scan QR code)
  • Layout Hierarchy

  • Headline — (30% of visual weight) — What's the offer/event?
  • Hero image — (30%) — Visual that supports the headline
  • Details — (25%) — Date, time, location, price
  • Call to action — (15%) — What should they do next?
  • Typography Rules

  • Headline: 24–36pt, bold, high contrast
  • Subheadline: 14–18pt, medium weight
  • Body: 10–12pt, regular weight, high readability
  • Maximum 2 fontsOne for headings, one for body
  • Color Tips

  • Use your brand colors for consistency
  • High contrast between text and background
  • One accent color for the CTA
  • Don't use more than 3–4 colors total
