Posters are seen from a distance. Every design decision must account for readability at 5–15 feet away.

Key Principles

  • Bold, simple imagery — One dominant visual element
  • Large typography — Title readable from across a room
  • High contrast — Must stand out on a wall or display
  • Clear hierarchy — Most important info first
  • Strategic white space — Don't fill every inch

  • A3: 297×420mm (small poster)
  • A2: 420×594mm (standard poster)
  • A1: 594×841mm (large poster)
  • 24×36 inches: Common US size
  • For Print

  • Resolution: 300 DPI minimum
  • Color mode: CMYK
  • Bleed: 3mm on all sides
  • File format: PDF/X
  • For Digital

  • Resolution: 150 DPI sufficient
  • Color mode: RGB
  • Format: PNG or JPEG
